Bombardier Corporate Signage Project

Bombardier Corporate Signage Project

Bombardier’s Moorpark facility required a signage system that could identify the property clearly at several points of approach while supporting practical navigation across the site. The completed project brings together building-mounted identification, address signage, monument signs, and directional signage within one consistent visual language. Rather than relying on a single primary sign, the property uses multiple coordinated elements to communicate the Bombardier identity from the street, parking areas, and different approaches to the building.

Description & the Challenge

A corporate facility of this scale presents a different signage challenge from a conventional storefront. Visitors, employees, service vehicles, and deliveries interact with the property in different ways, which means signage has to perform several functions simultaneously. The Bombardier name needed sufficient scale and visibility on the building, while ground-level signs had to identify the property and provide clear information closer to the driver's line of sight. Directional signage also needed to distinguish between the main entrance, visitor and veteran parking, general deliveries, and shipping and receiving areas.

The architecture and landscaping added another consideration. Trees and mature planting create partial sightline obstructions from several approaches, while the building itself has a restrained white exterior with dark window framing. Each sign therefore needed enough contrast and visual weight to remain readable without introducing unnecessary visual complexity.

The Solution

The completed signage package establishes several levels of identification throughout the property. Large dimensional Bombardier letters and the corporate symbol were mounted high on the building façade, using the light exterior surface to create strong contrast and long-range visibility. Separate dimensional address numbers identify the facility as 14399, providing another clear reference point on the building.

At ground level, monument signs reinforce the Bombardier name and address closer to the street and vehicular approaches. Directional signs positioned within the property provide practical wayfinding for the main entrance, visitor and veteran parking, general deliveries, and shipping and receiving. Together, these elements create a progression from property identification to destination-specific information as visitors move through the site.

Design Considerations

Consistency was particularly important because the project includes signs with different functions, viewing distances, scales, and mounting conditions. The black-and-white palette keeps the system visually connected to Bombardier’s established identity while providing strong contrast against both the building façade and surrounding landscape. The corporate symbol and wordmark remain dominant on identification signs, while directional signs use a more information-driven hierarchy appropriate for drivers navigating the property.

Scale and placement were also critical. Building-mounted letters needed to remain legible from a greater distance and work proportionally with the large façade. Monument signage required a lower profile appropriate to the landscaped perimeter while still being substantial enough to identify the property from the roadway. Directional signs were kept visually simpler so that destinations and arrows could be processed quickly rather than competing with decorative elements.

The Impact

The completed signage creates a much clearer relationship between Bombardier’s corporate identity and the physical facility. The building is identifiable from multiple exterior viewpoints, while monument and directional signage extend that identification beyond the façade and into the surrounding property. This is particularly important on a larger commercial site, where effective signage is not only a branding element but also part of how people understand and navigate the environment.

Using the same visual system across different sign types also gives the property a more organized appearance. Instead of individual signs functioning independently, the building identification, address, monuments, and wayfinding elements read as components of the same signage program.

Key Benefits

  • Strong building identification at longer viewing distances
  • Consistent Bombardier branding across multiple exterior sign types
  • Clear property identification from street and parking-area approaches
  • Dedicated directional information for visitors, parking, deliveries, and receiving
  • High contrast between signage, architecture, and surrounding landscaping
  • Coordinated hierarchy between primary identification and functional wayfinding
  • Sign placement and scale appropriate to different viewing distances across the site

The Bombardier project demonstrates how a coordinated signage program can address both corporate identification and the practical requirements of a large commercial facility. By combining prominent building signage with monument identification, address numbers, and site-specific directional signs, the finished system provides clear information at each stage of arrival while maintaining a consistent visual identity throughout the property.
